We’ve been searching a long time for a Bluetooth iPad keyboard that we love. Well today, friends, that search is over. We went hands on with the Zaggkeys ProPlus iPad keyboard, and walked away smitten. This is not the rubbery, folio style keyboard that we’ve seen far too often. No, the Zaggkeys ProPlus is like an extension of the iPad itself, cast in polished aluminum, with stiff, chiclet style keys that turns your iPad into an ultra thin touchscreen laptop. It’s perfect for taking on the road or TCB on the couch. We’ll just come right out with it – Zaggkeys ProPlus is the best iPad keyboard that we’ve used or even seen. It’s a must buy. Hands On Review

Design

The aesthetics are perhaps the biggest feather in the cap of the  Zaggkeys ProPlus. A solid aluminum exterior matches theiPad’s outer shell perfectly, making the ProPlus look completely organic when paired with your mobile device. The keyboard looks great as well, reminding us of the keypad’s of premium notebooks like the Macbook Air, while the backlighting adds a subtle bit of flair. All in all, unlike most mobile keyboards on the market, the  Zaggkeys ProPlus  actually complements the design of Apple’s tablet, rather than distracting from it, which is not easy to do.

When in use, the  Zaggkeys ProPlus holds your iPad in a slot near the rear of the keyboard, holding it place with magnets. We were a little doubtful that the keyboard would be able to sufficiently and safely keep our device in place, but were pleasantly surprised. With the iPad in place, the whole setup does get a little top-heavy, though we got used it quickly.

When you’re not working, the  Zaggkeys ProPlus simply folds closed, holding your iPad in place with magnets and protecting it with the aluminum shell. Great for travel.

Functionality

The  Zaggkeys ProPlus connects in a few seconds via Bluetooth, essentially turning you iPad into a super thin, super thin latop. The action on the keyboard is actually quite good, not rubbery or spongy, with virtually no lag between input and response. The chiclet or “island style” keys allowed us to work quickly and easily, responding to emails, writing notes, and planning our week by typing just as we would on our laptop. Assuming you have the proper productivity apps installed on your iPad, there’s no reason to believe that the  Zaggkeys ProPlus couldn’t replace your laptop for all but the heaviest of workloads.
